Getting Started with the Desktop App

The Knock Knock App desktop application gives you a native experience on your computer with features you cannot get in a web browser. If you spend a lot of time managing conversations and monitoring visitors, the desktop app makes your workflow faster and more reliable.

What the Desktop App Provides

The desktop app includes everything the web version offers, plus these native features:

  • Incoming Call Popup Window — When a visitor requests a call, a separate popup window appears on your screen, even if the app is minimized. You never miss a call.
  • System Tray Notifications — Get native notifications from your operating system so you see alerts even when you are working in another application.
  • Taskbar Badge with Unread Count — A badge on the app icon shows how many unread messages or events are waiting for you.
  • Auto-Updates — The app updates itself in the background so you always have the latest version without doing anything.
  • Notification Sounds — Customizable sounds for different events (new message, incoming call, new visitor, etc.) so you can tell what happened without looking at the screen.
  • Mute Notifications Toggle — Quickly mute all notifications when you need to focus, and unmute when you are ready.
  • Spell Check with Suggestions — Built-in spell check highlights misspelled words and offers suggestions as you type.

Key Features in Detail

Incoming Call Popup Window

When a visitor starts a call, a small popup window appears on your screen, separate from the main app window. This makes sure you notice incoming calls immediately, even if the app is behind other windows. You can answer or decline directly from the popup.

System Tray Notifications

The desktop app sends notifications through your operating system's notification center. These appear as native alerts, just like notifications from any other app on your computer.

Taskbar Badge

The app icon in your taskbar or dock shows a number badge when you have unread messages or pending events. This gives you a quick visual indicator without opening the app.

Auto-Updates

The desktop app checks for updates automatically and installs them in the background. You see a prompt to restart the app when a new version is ready. No manual downloads needed.

Notification Sounds

You can customize which events trigger a sound notification. Go to your notification settings within the app to assign different sounds to different events, or turn sounds off entirely.

Mute Notifications

Use the mute toggle to silence all notifications temporarily. This is useful during meetings or focused work. When you unmute, you see a summary of anything you missed.

Spell Check

As you type messages, the app underlines misspelled words and offers correction suggestions. Right-click a highlighted word to see suggestions and apply a fix.
