Live Sessions

Live Sessions lets you see who is on your website right now. You get a real-time view of every active visitor, what pages they are browsing, and key details that help you decide who to engage with.

Viewing Active Visitors

When you open Live Sessions, you will see a list of all visitors currently on your site. The list updates automatically -- new visitors appear as they arrive, and visitors disappear when they leave.

For each active visitor, the list shows:

  • Name -- If the visitor has identified themselves (through a chat or form), you will see their name. Otherwise, they appear as an anonymous visitor.
  • Location -- The visitor's city and country based on their connection.
  • IP address -- The visitor's network address.
  • Browser and OS -- What browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.) and operating system (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, etc.) they are using.
  • Lead score -- A score reflecting how engaged this visitor is. Higher scores mean stronger buying signals. Learn more about how scores work in Lead Scoring.
  • Traffic source -- How the visitor found your site (Direct, Organic Search, Google Ads, etc.). See Traffic Sources for details on each source type.
tip

Sort by lead score to focus on the visitors showing the most intent. A visitor with a high lead score who is currently browsing your pricing page is a prime candidate for a conversation.

Real-Time Page Tracking

As a visitor navigates your website, the page URL shown in their session entry updates in real time. You can watch visitors move from your homepage to a product page to your pricing page without any delay.

This is valuable because it lets you:

  • Time your outreach -- Reach out when a visitor lands on a high-intent page.
  • Understand visitor intent -- See the path a visitor takes through your site to gauge what they are interested in.
  • Spot confusion -- If a visitor keeps going back and forth between pages, they might need help finding what they are looking for.

Multi-Tab Tracking

Many visitors open multiple tabs on your website at the same time. Live Sessions tracks this and shows you when a visitor has more than one tab open. You can see which pages are open across all their tabs, giving you a more complete picture of what they are exploring.

note

Multi-tab tracking works automatically. If a visitor has your pricing page open in one tab and a product page in another, you will see both listed under their session.

Starting a Conversation

You can reach out to any active visitor directly from the Live Sessions view:

  • Start a chat -- Open a chat window with the visitor. They will see your message appear in the widget on their screen.
  • Start a call -- Initiate a voice or video call with the visitor. They will receive a call prompt in the widget.

This is one of the most powerful features in Knock Knock -- you are not waiting for the visitor to reach out. You can proactively start a conversation with someone who looks like a good fit.

warning

Be thoughtful about when you reach out. Contacting a visitor within seconds of them arriving can feel intrusive. Give them a moment to browse, and reach out when they show signs of interest -- like visiting multiple pages or spending time on a key page.

Bot Detection

Not every visitor on your site is a real person. Live Sessions includes bot detection to help you separate human visitors from automated traffic:

  • Suspected Bot -- A badge appears when the system detects behaviour patterns that suggest the visitor might be a bot but is not certain.
  • Confirmed Bot -- A badge appears when the system is confident the visitor is automated traffic (search engine crawlers, monitoring tools, etc.).

This saves you from wasting time trying to engage with non-human visitors.

note

Bot detection runs automatically. You do not need to configure anything. The badges appear alongside the visitor's other information in the session list.

  • Recorded Sessions -- Watch playback recordings of past visitor sessions.
  • Dashboard Overview -- See aggregated visitor metrics.
  • Chats -- View chat conversations you started from Live Sessions.
  • Calls -- View calls you initiated from Live Sessions.
