Audio and Video Settings

During any call in the Knock Knock widget — whether audio, video, or AI voice — your visitors can access a settings panel to configure their devices. This ensures they can hear clearly, be heard, and look their best on camera.

Accessing Settings

The settings panel is available from the "More" menu during any active call. The visitor taps the menu icon and selects Settings to open the panel. It slides open as an overlay without interrupting the call.

Microphone Selection

The settings panel shows a dropdown list of available audio input devices (microphones). If the visitor has multiple microphones connected — for example, a built-in laptop mic and a headset mic — they can switch between them.

  • The currently active microphone is highlighted in the dropdown
  • Selecting a different device switches the audio input immediately
  • The change takes effect without needing to restart the call
tip

If a visitor is having trouble being heard, suggest they check the microphone setting. They may have the wrong device selected — for example, a webcam microphone instead of their headset.

Speaker Selection

The settings panel also shows a dropdown list of available audio output devices (speakers). This lets the visitor choose where they hear the other person's voice.

  • Options might include laptop speakers, headphones, or an external speaker
  • The currently active speaker is highlighted
  • Switching speakers takes effect immediately
note

Speaker selection may not be available on all browsers. Some mobile browsers do not support choosing an audio output device. In those cases, the speaker dropdown will not appear.

Camera Selection

For video calls, the settings panel includes a dropdown list of available cameras. This is useful when a visitor has multiple cameras, such as:

  • A built-in laptop webcam
  • An external USB webcam
  • Front and rear cameras on a mobile device

Selecting a different camera switches the video feed immediately. The visitor's local preview updates so they can confirm the right camera is active.

Volume Slider

The settings panel includes a volume slider that controls the playback volume — how loud the other person (or the AI) sounds to the visitor.

  • The slider ranges from 0% to 100%
  • Dragging the slider adjusts the volume in real time
  • The current volume level is displayed as a percentage

This gives visitors fine-grained control over the audio level without needing to adjust their system volume.

Device Changes During a Call

All settings changes apply instantly without dropping or restarting the call. The visitor can:

  • Switch their microphone if they plug in a headset mid-call
  • Change their camera if they connect an external webcam
  • Adjust the volume if the other person is too quiet or too loud

The settings panel can be opened and closed as many times as needed during a single call.

warning

If a visitor disconnects a device during a call (for example, unplugging a headset), the system will attempt to switch to another available device automatically. If no alternative is available, the visitor may lose audio input or output until they reconnect a device.
