Video Greetings

Greeting videos are short video messages that play in your widget when a visitor arrives on your website. They add a personal, human touch that text alone cannot achieve — visitors see a real person welcoming them, which builds trust and encourages engagement.

How Greeting Videos Work

When a visitor lands on your website and the widget appears, the greeting video plays automatically (or on click, depending on your settings). The video is displayed directly inside the widget, so the visitor does not need to leave the page or open a separate window.

Greeting videos appear in the widget header area and are visible across all widget styles that support video previews, including the Ultimate and Smart styles.

Default Video Library

Knock Knock App includes a library of pre-made greeting video templates that you can use right away. These templates cover common scenarios like:

  • General welcome messages
  • Sales greetings
  • Support introductions
  • After-hours messages

To use a default video:

  1. Go to Settings > Widget > Video Greetings
  2. Browse the available templates in the Default Library
  3. Click on a template to preview it
  4. Select the one you want to use as your greeting
tip

The default templates are a great way to get started quickly. You can always replace them with your own custom videos later once you are ready.

Uploading Custom Videos

For a more personal touch, you can upload your own greeting videos. Custom videos let you introduce yourself, your team, or your product in your own words and style.

To upload a custom video:

  1. Go to Settings > Widget > Video Greetings
  2. Click Upload Video
  3. Select a video file from your device
  4. Wait for the upload to complete
  5. Preview the video to make sure it looks and sounds good

Video Requirements

  • Maximum length: 45 seconds
  • Supported formats: MP4 and other common video formats
  • File size: Keep your file size reasonable for fast loading
warning

Videos longer than 45 seconds cannot be uploaded. Keep your greeting short and focused — visitors are more likely to watch the entire message if it is brief.

Video Preview in Settings

After uploading or selecting a video, you can preview it directly in your settings panel. The preview shows you exactly how the video will look inside the widget, so you can check framing, audio quality, and overall appearance before it goes live.

Click the play button on the preview to watch your greeting video. If you are not happy with it, you can upload a replacement at any time.

How Videos Appear to Visitors

When a visitor sees your widget, the greeting video experience depends on the widget style you have selected:

  • Ultimate and Smart widgets — The video preview thumbnail is visible directly on the widget card. Visitors can see a frame of the video before they interact.
  • Other widget styles — The video plays after the visitor opens or interacts with the widget.

The video creates an immediate sense of connection. Visitors feel like someone is speaking directly to them, which makes them more likely to start a conversation.

Using Videos with Page Rules

You can assign different greeting videos to different pages using Page Rules. This means you can:

  • Show a sales-focused video on your pricing page
  • Show a support-oriented video on your help center
  • Show a general welcome video everywhere else

This level of personalization helps you deliver the right message at the right moment.

Best Practices for Greeting Videos

Here are some tips to make your greeting videos as effective as possible:

Keep It Short

Aim for 15 to 30 seconds. Visitors are browsing your site and may not have the patience for a long introduction. Get to the point quickly.

Be Friendly and Natural

Smile, make eye contact with the camera, and speak in a conversational tone. You are not recording a formal presentation — you are welcoming someone to your website.

Introduce Yourself

Tell the visitor who you are and what your company does in one or two sentences. This gives them context and makes the interaction feel personal.

Include a Call to Action

End your video with a clear next step: "Click the chat button if you have any questions" or "Start a video call and I will walk you through it." This nudges visitors toward engagement.

Use Good Lighting and Audio

Record in a well-lit space with minimal background noise. Poor video or audio quality can undermine the trust you are trying to build.

Match the Page

If you are creating videos for specific pages using page rules, make sure the content of each video relates to what the visitor is looking at. A generic message on a specific product page feels out of place.

note

You can update your greeting video at any time. If your team changes, your product evolves, or you simply want to try a different approach, just upload a new video and it replaces the old one instantly.

Next Steps

Once your greeting videos are set, you are ready to install the widget on your website.
